Decorating Halloween cakes makes the cake decorating learning process easier because it’s so much fun.  It’s a very good way to learn some fondant techniques too.  Rolling, cutting and shaping fondant are the skills you’ll need, but don’t let that frighten you as much as the spooky spooks on Halloween!

Mummy Halloween Cake Decorating Ideas

Halloween Cake Decorating IdeasMummies are the quintessential Halloween monsters, right along with ghosts, Frankenstein and zombies. A mummy cake is fast and easy to decorate too.

See that handsome fellow on the right? Well, I have two videos for you that will help you recreate the adorable mummy cake for your party.

The first video below involves rolling, cutting and simple shaping of fondant over your Halloween cake.  If you can cut a pizza, you can cut the bandage decorations for this cake.

The second video is for those who are more experienced with icing bags and tips.  Note that they use a flat icing tip (described in the video) to create the bandages.

Graveyard Halloween Cake Decorating Ideas

Halloween Cake Decorating IdeasGraveyard cakes are all-time favorites at Halloween. They’re really fun cakes to make too. The fact that they are so flexible in what you can use to decorate them with makes them all the more fun. Certainly you can use icing, fondant, royal icing and more to create a wonderful graveyard cake, but don’t limit yourself.

Gummy worms, eyeball candies, spider rings are good friends to those of us that may be short on skills but long on creativity. I love using Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies for the ‘grave stones.’ They’re delicious!

You can use chocolate candy like Hershey’s Bars or Heath Bars to make the ‘grave stones’ too.  Use green icing or green colored coconut for grass or crumble up some Oreo cookies to make ‘dirt.’

Pretzel sticks or Twix candy can be used for a fence.  You can design your ‘grave yard just about any way you’d like to.  Add candy pumpkins, gummy worms, spider ring cupcake toppers and anything else you can think of to make your creation creepy!

Kids would love to help decorate a graveyard cake this way because they don’t have to work with the fondant and it’s not near as messy for them.  When I make a graveyard cake, I use a rectangular 13 x 9 cake pan.  It just seems to make for a more fun graveyard.
