Fondant is a thick paste worked into a dough, made of sugar and water and often flavored or colored. It’s used in the making of candy and for cake decorating.
You can buy fondant in tubs, or buy it already shaped into designs or fondant rolls. You can even buy it already colored and/or flavored.
Soft and flexible fondant can be either poured or rolled. Its texture is similar to a sweet dough. Just roll it out like a pie or cookie dough and you’re ready to work with it.
The rolled fondant is rolled out into sheets, then gently placed over your baked goods. Smooth it, cut it, and voila, you have a beautifully covered cake. You can cut out shapes with cookie cutters or special cutters for fondant. Or you can form shapes like flowers, people, toys and more.
You can add food coloring and flavoring to create custom baked delights. It gives your cake a smooth, silky, professional look while being easy to work with. It’s almost like playing with Play-Doh!
